On Anti-Aging
The other day, a patient suggested that I look into the teachings of an anti-aging guru. I went to his website and saw this 50 y/o bald man with a body like a bulldog. Yes, he oozed vitality and charm, and yes, he did have a medical degree (what do you call the person who graduated at the bottom of their medical school? Doctor!). And yes, he was very knowledgeable about all the latest studies on aging, so many theories, and rats living the longest of lives— I am not sure how the rats felt about this.
Was he particularly humble? No.
If you are considering following some or many anti-aging specialists, I would ask that you consider the following;
What actual wisdom, not knowledge, does a 50 y/o have with regard to living a long and vital life? Fifty years is NOT a long life. There are only theories and experiments on animals, most of which are flawed studies. Firmly entrenched in my eighth decade of life and with over 50 years of healing across the full spectrum of healing modalities, I cry BS! If you want to live forever, you will be a lot happier NOT in a physical body.
Life is defined by opposing processes. (See To Dust You Will Return) One is that of chaos, an immutable law of thermodynamics that states the level of organization of any system will decrease over time—Entropy. Metal rusts, fruit rots, stars explode, and humans die. The second process, in contrast, uses energy to oppose this tendency towards chaos and randomness. DNA degrades, and information is lost. This degradation (chaos) is reversed by putting energy into the repair of that DNA.
Make no mistake! Entropy will always win. So, the study and application of anti-aging medicine is an attempt to put off the inevitable disassembly and dissolution of our being.
If you really want to put off this final dissolution for as long as possible, in as functional a way as possible, refer back to the primary principles of the hierarchy of health. Align with spirit in all that you do, and you will be guaranteed the longest, healthiest, and most valuable of lives.
The absolute final decider on how long you live is Spirit. The illusion of control over how long you will or will not live is silly. Absolutely, the most essential aspect of anti-aging is loving the creator, loving yourself, and loving the world around you. Tens of thousands of dollars of metformin, supplements, infrared rays, cold plunges, and green tea enemas will have an insignificant effect on your longevity when compared to the years and function lost from self disdain, codependent relationships, and a work that you despise.
All this being said, much of what is discussed as anti-aging medicine may or may not be useful and is something only YOU can determine (see Intuitive Living). Your body knows what you need to do to keep yourself at maximum health; you only have to train yourself to listen.
